Hey, It’s Hay!

Meet Juan’s little sister, Hay!
She’s much shier than her brother Juan - but enjoys chomping flowers almost as much as he does. Since I still can’t really use a computer much, I’m going to start posting photos with an itty bit of commentary until this shoulder/neck/back thing calms down. So… here’s Hay!

Most wild bunnies don’t have any white on them, but Hay has a very distinctive white spot on her forehead.

Guess who? This is Big Sis, Hay and Juan’s big sister! She’s from Petunia’s first litter, born in early spring. Big Sis has Petunia’s unusually colored fur (it’s very blotchy) and is exceptionally shy of humans. She’s the only bunny that’s still here from that spring litter. All we usually see of her is a flash of her white cottontail as she dives into the ferns!

Hay (back) and Big Sis (front)! Although they look similar in size in this photo, it’s only because the perspective I shot it from is rather distorted. Big Sis is at least twice Hay’s size.
Lots more photos to come…

OK, so let me get this straight - you have Stewart, Petunia, Big Sis, Hay and Juan - five bunnies?! FIVE. Hmph.
Well - we have one. I’m calling him Mr. Bun Bun and he seems to live on both sides of our street as we leave our driveway and go down the hill. He’s quite plump (no, not pregnant, just eating well…) and utterly adorable. No pictures though, he’s unpredictable.
So I have that - Mr. Bun Bun.
Five?? I know I have at least one, maybe two bunnies. Hopefully the baby bunnies survived the hawk attack on the nest.
Meanwhile, my garden is now devoid of the pathetic crop of lettuce I had. NOthing left. Down to the dirt. and I found the culprit in the garden - a rabbit! Of course, shutting the gate would have helped, or using fencing the rabbit couldn’t just saunter through
Ah, well, doing my bit to help nature survive
Yep. FIVE bunnies. And that’s just the regulars…
Petunia is the biggest (not fat, just big!) wild rabbit I’ve ever seen, and she’s almost as accepting of me as Stewart is. Big Sis is the wildest and most afraid. We have to be careful, as she’ll try and ‘run’ right through our chain link fencing if she’s startled, and hurt herself. Hay and Juan are not only littermates but also playmates. In the very early mornings or late evenings they will chase each other in circles, playing bunny-tag, often leaping midrace straight up in the air as high as they can, just for the joy of being baby rabbits!
Kris, congrats on finally having a resident bunny! May Mr. Bun Bun live long and prosper - but not on your ornamental flowers and bushes! Elyse - you’re just doing your part to provide gourmet bunny food, right?
JAS - if only Mr. Bun Bun WAS in my own yard. He’s not - he’s occupying 2 sides of the bottom of the street I live on. I think I’ve seen him in the neighbor’s yard, but I’m not sure.
We don’t get any bunnies in our yard - we have too many hawks, coyotes, bobcats and foxes.
I’ll take Mr. Bun Bun where I can get him.
Ack - well, at least Mr. Bun Bun is in the neighborhood, so to speak!
