They’re Baaaaack….

I’ve been wondering lately if a somewhat-worse-for-wear set of slightly flattened field mice would sell on eBay.
*sigh*
We’ve had a cold snap, so the field mice are scurrying about looking for nice toasty places to plant their rumps and whiskers for another long winter. It doesn’t matter how tight your house is, how well sealed your food stores - not to Peromyscus maniculatus. Just last week I discovered that a very determined field mouse had chewed its way through our cinderblock foundation to get from the garage into the basement.
That made me a tad… cross.
The traps came out.
Eight mice in the last seven days have had a rather abrupt end to their home hunting endeavors.
I can hear another one scurrying about in the storage room as I write this–
*snap*
Make that nine mice, in seven days.
Hmm. About eBaying those mice? I’d better make it a dutch auction.

We have had that same problem. And to think we have three cats. Something is wrong with that picture. The funny thing was it was the dog (yes the dog) who actually caught the first mouse. Her name is Lucy (beagle cocker mix). We were very proud and at the same time disappointed with the cats. Ummm… what to do. Glad to see you on-line. I love reading your blog.
You haven’t lived until you’ve had a NY State North Country Mouse (rat-sized mouse, no kidding) saunter across the carpet in the living room of the house you are renting, stop and look up slowly at you and your husband - sitting is more than mild shock - as if to say “Um, scuse me but just what exactly do you think you are doing here…without snacks for me.”
3 big traps later - 11 mice in 4 days.
Kris, two words: Barn Rat. You’ve haven’t lived until you’ve had the pleasure of picking up a heavy feed bucket and discovering that it’s empty of grain but totally full with a HUGE beady-eyed barn rat. First rat launched into space from a private property without the benefit of anything but a human-powered booster, I might add…
LOL about Lucky - one of our friends had an Australian Shepherd that was a terrific mouser! And glad you enjoy reading here - wish I was able to write more often!
p.s. growing up on the farm I have seen more than my share of barn rats. I will take a field mouse any day of the week.
We haven’t seen any mice in the house, although I have heard something in the walls. Sigh. Hopefully not a chipmunk! Hmm, I think ebay prohibits selling dead mice, unless of course, you stuff ‘em in cute little poses
Oooooo - poses! I hadn’t thought of that…
