Spring Has Sprung

Pink Peony

I wish, Oh Best Beloved, that you could snuff the absolutely lovely fragrance wafting from my peonies this year.

sniffffffffffff…….Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

I had no idea, having never owned a peony before, what to expect in terms of the actual flower it would produce, or the fragrance. This plant came as a gift from a friend, who dug out a clump from her yard for me. We planted it, and then waited.

And waited.

And waited.

For three years.

Three. Whole. Years.

Peonies, so the experts say, need to ’settle in’ before blooming.

No kidding.

This spring Miss Peony announced She Was Settled In by producing no less than 20 enormous buds, which have now opened into spectacular blooms.

So how do you think, Oh Best Beloved, that I’ve celebrated this little gardening success?

Yup. I bought three more peonies.

I’ll post pictures when they bloom… which, by my calculations, should be around 2010.

Oy.
